Now that we've had some time to decompress from the 2008 election, here are some quick thoughts. Agree, disagree or feel free to add your own.
- The election was a predicted, a landslide. The networks tried to make it a horserace as long as they could to keep ratings up but the truth is after the Palin pick / economic meltdown, this baby was over.
- The Prop 8 fallout has been surprising. As one pundit put it, "it's no longer mister nice gay." The gay community is rightly mad as hell. What is more surprising than that is the overall blowback against those who supported it, especially the LDS Church. Not something the church probably wanted right at its big Christmas public relations time.
- The Nevada GOP is in shambles. Two possible GOP candidates for Governor in two years lost their races, leaving a light field to challenge Gibbons in the primary. The Dems on the other side have a deep and powerful bench that can push through progressive legislation in this next session despite Governor Gibbons.
- The National GOP currently doesn't stand for anything. The Reagan coalition has collapsed and we're headed for a battle royal in 2010 for the soul of the party. They may want to think of hiring some community organizers to get back into the game.
- The internet changes this election from the 1984 anit-Hillary ad to raising money and getting out the vote, the webwar is now just as important as the airwar and groundwar.
